Abstract

The Qur’an, in the context of ‘Ulum al-Qur’an (Sciences of the Qur’an), is viewed as the eternal, unaltered word of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over 23 years. It is a sacred text central to Islamic belief and practice, comprising 114 chapters (surahs) with 6,236 verses (ayat) that guide Muslims in spiritual, moral, and legal matters. ‘Ulum al-Qur’an encompasses several key disciplines, including Tafsir (interpretation), Qira’at (readings), Asbab al-Nuzul (occasions & reasons of revelation), Nasikh wa Mansukh (abrogation), and Tajwid (pronunciation), which collectively ensure the correct understanding, recitation, and application of the Qur’an’s teachings. These sciences help scholars preserve the authenticity and depth of the Qur’an, offering tools to interpret its meanings in both historical and contemporary contexts.
